Striving for Excellence - Innovations in Distance Learning

Traditional On-Ground Universities with Over-the-Top Online Offerings

Sit back and look at the Web sites of some of our greatest universities. Here are the links to two such schools, Harvard University and Vanderbilt University:

Harvard University (School of Medicine)

Both of these schools share a fantastic array of open courseware with the public. These can be found on itunes U or You TubeU.

  1. Connie- thanks for sharing these sites. I had a hard time getting Harvard or Vanderbilt's sites to open. I poked around on YouTube a bit... I tried "Harvard" as a search term but ended up spending 8 minutes watching Seth MacFarlane's Harvard commencement speech (hilarious, yes... educational, probably not). Is there an actual "YouTubeU" that filters educational offerings, or do all videos that consider themselves educational end up under the subheading "education"?

  2. Hi Kate,

I apologize about the links not working, but glad you got to listen to a humorous video! The You Tube EDU site is:

    http://www.youtube.com/education?b=400

From there you can enter Vanderbilt or Harvard (or any school) into the Search box. You can also search by subject, i.e., Nursing.

The site has a link to create an account and I don't see many goofy things on there, so I am thinking it is somehow regulated. Good question!
